Job Description: Fiber Technician
Position Summary
We are seeking a full time Fiber Optic Technician to become an integral part of our team! You
will install, test and trouble shoot SM fiber optic cables in a FTTH network.
Responsibilities:
ï‚· Installation and maintenance of a Fiber Optics FTTH network
ï‚· Install, repair and resolve fiber optic systems and ensure that they work properly
ï‚· Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas
ï‚· Splice and Terminate SM fiber
ï‚· Perform basic to complex installation, troubleshooting & repair of fiber systems under
minimal supervision
ï‚· Access the fiber optic splice enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from a
bucket truck
ï‚· Perform fiber tests: OTDR, power meter/laser source, and scopes.
ï‚· Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to large counts as well as
perform ring cuts when needed
ï‚· Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment
ï‚· Fiber optic test and troubleshooting abilities
ï‚· Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
ï‚· Commit to safe work €“ there is nothing more important!
ï‚· Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber
or fiber related equipment
ï‚· Prep cable, splicing, connectors, installation of fiber optic cabinets
ï‚· OSP/ISP splice enclosure manufacturers
ï‚· Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and/or install fiber-based services
ï‚· Splice and fiber issues using industry standard equipment
ï‚· Terminate, splice, document and test fiber optic cables
Job Experience
Desired:
ï‚· Recent Fiber Installation - Pulling/Terminating fiber cabling.
ï‚· Fusion splicing/terminations
ï‚· FOA Certification is a plus
ï‚· General knowledge of OTDR and Light Source and Power Meters
ï‚· Familiar with splice drawings and OTDR test sheets and reading traces
ï‚· Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings
ï‚· Cable prep/single and mass fusion splicing and termination abilities
ï‚· Fiber optic test and troubleshooting abilities
Required:
ï‚· Good motor vehicle driving record
ï‚· Excellent writing and oral communication skills
ï‚· Ability to interact with customers, vendors, contractors and other required personnel
ï‚· The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all
internal controls processes
ï‚· The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and
always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity
Experience:
ï‚· Fiber Optic: 2 years (Preferred)
